THE BEGINING OF THE PROJECT (2020)
VIKING was born in 2020, during a moment when the world had come to a pause. It was then that professional BMX Flatland rider Viki Gomez met engineer David Palau, discovering they shared the same ambition: to create bicycles that were lighter, stronger, and far more advanced than anything the sport had seen before.
What began as a simple question — “Why aren’t BMX bikes lighter?” — quickly evolved into a mission that united two very different paths into one innovation-driven vision.
Viki Gomez — THE RIDER SEAKING EVOLUTION
As a six-time BMX Flatland world champion, Viki had spent years pushing the limits of his sport and paying the price. During the 2020 Red Bull project, unable to travel, he struggled with recurring injuries caused by the excessive weight of his bike. His wife and business partner, Alexandra Gobran, was the first to suggest a new direction: “Why don’t we research how to build a lighter bike?”
As Viki dug deeper, he realized BMX Freestyle technology had barely evolved. Bikes were too heavy, discouraging young and female riders and putting unnecessary strain on professionals like him. Searching for a solution, he typed “BMX Titanium” into Google and found engineer David Palau. Days later, during a Red Bull show in Barcelona, they met in person. The moment Viki held a titanium frame and handlebar, he immediately saw the potential.
“It was the first time in my career I met an engineer genuinely interested in improving BMX Freestyle and taking its technology to the next level.”
David Palau — THE ENGINEER AND TITANIUM MADNESS
David’s passion for cycling and engineering started early. At 14, inspired by his father’s motorsport engineering projects, he discovered titanium, a material that would shape his entire career. Its processes, strength, and versatility became an obsession.
Years later, when his oldest son began riding BMX, David was shocked to realize that a small 20″ BMX weighed more than his 29″ mountain bike. That unnecessary weight pushed his son and many other children away from the sport.
This was the turning point. David understood that BMX Freestyle had not evolved technologically and decided to dedicate his expertise to changing that.
When he met Viki, the pieces fit immediately: the athlete who needed lighter performance and the engineer who knew how to build it.
A New Chapter — FROM BMX TO GRAVEL (2025)
Five years after that first encounter, the Viking Team have expanded their vision. Backed by the experience gained in developing ultra-light, highly durable titanium BMX bikes for professional riders, they now take a bold step forward: the creation of Viking Cykles.
With the same dedication to performance engineering, longevity, and material excellence, the team channels its expertise into a new territory: titanium gravel bikes.
Gravel represents freedom, exploration, and the pursuit of long-lasting engineering solutions. This aligns perfectly with what Viking Cykles stands for: lightweight design, structural durability, modern geometry, and products built to last a lifetime.
Viking Cykles is not a newcomer; it is the evolution of years of innovation, real-world testing, and a shared passion for building bicycles that redefine what riders can expect from titanium.
This is the beginning of a new era. Welcome to Viking Cykles.
